ABOUT
Jonathan 'J.' Stone began his love affair with beatbox in 2001 when he went off to college but didn't have room in his freshman dorm for his drumkit. He started making percussion sounds with his voice and soon began wowing crowds from New York to Tel Aviv leading all the way to his national TV debut on American Idol Season 9.
Beat Mitzvah is a project born out of Stone's love for beatboxing fused with his passion for Jewish music.
From the first time he performed his Sh'ma Israel Beatbox at Birthright Israel Monologues, he knew he had discovered a unique new way to merge beatbox, vocals and traditional Hebrew prayer.
He has since performed for countless synagogues, Jewish day schools and sleep-away camps as Co-Founder of Bagels 'n Box and he created Beat Mitzvah as his first Jewish solo project in which he sings and beatboxes...simultaneously.
What excites Stone most about Beat Mitzvah is the ability for this funky, innovative way of prayer to engage Jewish youths and connect them to their religion from elementary school all the way through college. This, in turn, keeps them connected to their heritage, culture and music for lifetimes to come.
